It’s London Fashion week and the streets are buzzing with fashionista’s in their element. But in a stunning old church in Notting Hill a gentleman called Gareth Williams came up with an idea that will celebrate the talent and creativity of designers and raise money for the Safe Haven Children’s Trust in Cambodia. I was invited along to host the event and what an honour for such a worthy cause.

Cindy HostChildren in Cambodia are abandoned by parents due to financial reasons. Safe Haven Children’s Trust, is providing employment to parents by training them with skills such as sewing, embroidery, crotchet and lace so that they have employment then they are not needlessly separated from their children.

The venue was a breathtaking church around the corner from Victoria and David Beckham’s house! Myself and another model called, Thomas co-hosted the event and the energy between us was amazing. We welcomed, laughed and encouraged the audience to raise some serious cash for the fabulous children’s charity.

Designers donated and made pieces especially for the night. Models elegantly walked down the runway – including myself – wearing the masterpieces the genius designers had created. People were able to place bids on selected items, buy from pop up shops, enter raffle prize draws and even purchase garments made by the women of Cambodia. To top it off, guests were entertained by a host of musical artists whilst the drinks flowed. The atmosphere was electrifying and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Runway CindyHosting events can be as nerve-wrecking as they can be fun. I was a little nervous beforehand but there’s nothing wrong with a little nerves as long as you take control of them and not the other way around.

My job on the night, was to work effectively with another host whom I’d never met before and to ensure the audience were informed about the charity and why it was such a worthy cause. It is important to make your audience feel comfortable and to encourage them to donate without being too pushy.

So once you know everything there is to know about your subject matter, your delivery will be more confident and relaxed.

A great time was had by all for a great cause indeed. There is still the opportunity to donate to this wonderful charity or find out more here.
